Science and technology drive the U.S. military’s development of weaponry and equipment. In the past 10 years, improvements in military vision technologies have paved the way for a more transparent battlefield through used of specialized headsets that provide foot soldiers with a 95-degree field of vision, satellite views, and synthetic vision. Unfortunately, the cost of individual headsets is high. Will these technologies ever be available for widespread use among U.S. foot soldiers? Further, will they ever make it to the marketplace in the form of innovative products and services that can be purchased and used by consumers?
