Craig Connects has done an in-depth study of the social media usage of the top 50 non-profit organisations, as listed by The Non-Profit Times. Among the many interesting facts they found out, they learned that 92% of the top 50 nonprofits have at least 1 social media presence on their homepage. While correlation does not equal causation, this does go to show that actively using social media, and advertising that fact on your website, is a sign of a successful non-profit organisation. 92% were linking to their facebook page, and 90% to twitter.
